IT support technicians are tasked with ensuring all networks, devices, and other technological equipment are working as required (typically in a business setting). Their day-to-day tasks may include assessing company hardware for faults or issues, replacing equipment or issuing repairs as necessary. They likely work in a help desk or as part of an on-call support team, troubleshooting user problems online or over the phone.
These professionals are also often responsible for conducting frequent inventory of a company’s IT equipment, verifying upgrades or installing new hardware when required. They may also advise or train users on navigating these upgrades and new devices.
Employment for IT support technicians is expected to grow very strongly in the coming years – with a 14% predicted job growth by 2024, according to SEEK.
